This initiative focuses on helping patrons of LGBTQ spaces (bars, clubs, etc…) know where alternative escape routes exist if they were caught in an active shooting situation.
The LGBTQ community in the United States is increasingly targeted by gun violence. Look no further than the tragedy at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, or to a recent arrest of neo-Nazi that was planning to blow up a Las Vegas LGBTQ club, to see that our community needs to be working together to prepare on how to respond if this event should occur in or local communities.

This initiative seeks to engage with local gay merchant associations, starting in the San Francisco Bay Area, to establish a common understanding of the problem, ideate on what alternative exit strategies may exist if their main entrance is blocked by an active shooter, and document those exit (or possibly barricade) strategies.

This may consist of website materials, phone-based applications (Apps), and/or physical signage that will quickly enable someone to obtain easy-to-understand escape information. While the primary goal focused around alternative exits, the principals of “Run, Hide, Fight” may be integrated in as more is learned.
